Speaker: Cristian Sagal, Investment Commissioner Officer, InvestChile
Chile’s energy landscape has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years. In response to shifts in both domestic and international contexts, the nation has implemented significant policy and institutional reforms, alongside ambitious infrastructure projects. A key milestone came in 2022, when Chile’s Ministry of Energy updated its Long-Term Energy Policy (PELP), first introduced in 2015. This update reaffirms Chile’s unwavering commitment to achieving net-zero emissions, outlining a comprehensive decarbonisation strategy that encompasses all sectors of the economy.
Chile’s exceptional renewable energy resources have propelled it to the forefront of the global clean energy movement, establishing the country as a premier hub for solar and wind energy investment. Progressive legislation continues to attract substantial private investment, particularly in electricity generation, while an enhanced role for the state in energy planning has spurred significant advancements in project development, notably in electricity transmission. Since 2017, Chile’s energy security and efficiency have been further strengthened by the integration of its national electricity grid into a single interconnected system.
The discussion will cover:
- How Chile successfully transitioned its energy matrix to NCRE
- Overview of the energy industry, challenges and opportunities available therein
- Latest developments on green hydrogen and its potential
- How Chile became a regional leader, and its path to becoming a global player in the industry
The webinar will take place on Zoom at 5pm GMT on Thursday, 28th November.
