Speakers: International Energy Agency’s Tim Gould (Chief Energy Economist) and Siddharth Singh (Energy Investment Analyst).
Today, we are facing a major geopolitical crisis in the Middle East that could cause a great shock to all markets, as most oil producers are located in the region, causing energy insecurity. In addition to the geopolitical crisis, climate challenges are more pronounced than ever. Our planet is experiencing devastating extreme weather, record-breaking heatwaves, flooding and rapid ice melt, to name a few examples.
The International Energy Agency’s Tim Gould (Chief Energy Economist) and Siddharth Singh (Energy Investment Analyst) shared key insights on this year’s World Energy Outlook (WEO) report:
- Overview of the fifty years since the first oil shock
- China’s role in the energy markets and developments in the clean energy domain
- The current energy outlook – Assessing the major structural shifts needed to overcome energy security and climate change risks:
- How can governments triple renewables capacity between now and 2030?
- How can governments double the improvement in energy efficiency globally?
- The need for oil and gas companies to commit to climate targets by taking measures, including a 75% reduction in methane emissions by 2030
- Dynamics for energy investment – how can financial mechanisms support the clean energy financing and meet the 1.5° C global goal?
- How can governments take the required measures to continue enabling the decline of fossil fuels?
- LNG Market Transformations: Examining the surge in new LNG projects, impacts on global gas markets, and challenges in the LNG sector
- Accelerating the Transition: Key actions to bend the emissions curve, financing mechanisms for clean energy, and preparations for COP28
The webinar took place on Zoom at 5pm GMT on Tuesday, 28th November.
