Nick Frydas
Nick is a Chartered Electrical Power Systems Engineer and Energy Economist. He has more than 26 years of professional experience and a successful track record in energy markets and regulatory policy. Nick has worked with power utilities in planning and operational roles, acted as Director of Regulatory Affairs with two major European Energy Traders and has served as a Consultant in energy projects around the world. In the period 2004-2007 he was appointed by the United Nations as Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Office of Kosovo. As a consultant Nick has advised a wide range of institutional, private and multilateral clients including DECC, WB, IFC, ACER, EC DGENER, IEA and various governments around the world (South Africa, Hong Kong, Kosovo, Botswana). His work includes energy policy and strategy, restructuring of power sectors, design of regulatory frameworks and market models, network pricing and mechanisms for the deployment of renewable generation and smart grids. Since July 2014 he has joined the Secretariat of ENTSO-E in Brussels as the Resources Planning Manager.
Nick is a Visiting Lecturer teaching on ESCP's Master in Energy Management. Nick has received a BSc in Electrical Engineering, a MSc from University of Strathclyde in Power Systems, a MSc from University of Strathclyde in Energy Economics and Regulation and has submitted a PhD thesis at Washington International University. He is a member of IET, an associate member of IAEE, member of Technical Chamber of Greece and elected member of the dispute resolution panel of SEM (Ireland).
