Ehud Ronn, University of Texas at Austin
Dr. Ronn's research is primarily in the area of energy risk: modeling, measurement and management. He has published articles on banking, investments, interest rate sensitive instruments, and energy derivatives in academic and practitioner literature, including Journal of Finance, Journal of Business, American Economic Review and Energy & Power Risk Management.
Prior to joining the University of Texas at Austin in July 1988, Dr. Ronn was a faculty member of the business schools at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Chicago. During a two-year leave of absence from the University of Texas, Dr. Ronn served as Vice President, Trading Research Group at Merrill Lynch & Co., where he was responsible for the valuation and hedging of a wide array of interest rate-sensitive securities, from callable bonds to exotic options. Since 1993, he has served as consultant to Federal and State government agencies, an insurance company, investment banks, a risk advisory firm and an energy-derivative software vendor in the interest-rate and energy-commodity arenas.
In the energy-consulting area, Dr. Ronn has addressed the multiple issues of Risk Assessment; Construction of Optimal Hedge Portfolios; VAR and CVAR; Dual-Fuel Options; Valuation of Load-Following Services; Modeling Energy Prices and Pricing Monthly and Daily Options; and the Valuation and Optimal Management of Storage Facility.
Michael Pollitt, University of Cambridge, UK
Dr Pollitt is co-editor of Economics of Energy and Environmental Policy and a member of the editorial board of the Review of Industrial Organization. He is also a Research Associate of the Centre for Business Research (CBR) and a member of the Faculty of Economics. He is currently a member of Ofwat's Future Challenges expert panel and an energy advisor to the Consumers' Association (Which?). Since 2000 he has been convenor of the Association of Christian Economists, UK.
Dr Pollitt has advised the UK Competition Commission, the New Zealand Commerce Commission, Ofgem, ORR, ESRC, the Norwegian Research Council, the DTI, the World Bank and the European Commission. He has also consulted for National Grid, AWG, Eneco, Nuon, Roche and TenneT. He is the Coach on the Cambridge MBA's "Energy & Environment" concentration, and the University's Energy Champion for Policy, Economics and Risk. His research interests include industrial economics; privatisation and regulation of utilities especially in electricity; the measurement of productive efficiency; the relationship between Christian ethics and best practice business behaviour.

Jonathan Stern, Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, UK
Jonathan Stern founded the OIES Natural Gas Research Programme in 2003 and was its Director until October 2011 when he became its Chairman and a Senior Research Fellow. He is Honorary Professor at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum & Mineral Law & Policy, University of Dundee; Visiting Professor at Imperial College's Centre for Environmental Policy in London; Part Time BP Professor at the Moscow School of Management's Energy Centre at Skolkovo; and a fellow of the Energy Delta Institute. Since 2011 he has been the EU speaker for the EU-Russia Gas Advisory Council. He is the author of several books and many shorter works on energy and natural gas issues in: the UK, Europe (western and eastern), the former Soviet Union and Asia. The second edition of his edited volume: Natural Gas in Asia: the challenges of growth in China, India, Japan and Korea was published by Oxford University Press in 2008. He is co-editor with Bassam Fattouh of Natural Gas Markets in the Middle East and North Africa, published in 2011. His most recent edited book is The Pricing of Internationally Traded Gas, published by Oxford University Press in 2012.
Peter Steward, Chief Energy Analyst at Interfax, UK
Peter Steward has been a frequent speaker at energy industry conferences for the last decade. He is currently the Chief Energy Analyst at Interfax Global Energy Services, and managing editor of Interfax Global Gas Anaytics, a new monthly publication that provides expert insight into Gas markets fundamentals and short- and medium-term price forecasts. Before Interfax, he worked for 5 years as Principal Consultant at KBC Energy Economics, where he was chief economist and led the group's market analysis team.
He is currently involved in econometric research at Surrey University on the subject of oil and gas pricing benchmarks, building on his 20 years of experience with the Price Reporting Agency (PRA) Platts. He worked at Platts for 15 years in a number of different roles, including Director of Markets and Pricing, in which role he was responsible for Platts global assessment processes for all commodities. Peter is a frequent speaker at oil and energy industry conferences on all aspects of the oil and gas value chain, as well as emerging markets such as bio-fuels. He has spoken and chaired discussion sessions at conferences in Europe, Middle East, Russia and Asia for companies such as Euromoney, Oil Council, SMi, Platts, Informa, Lloyds List and others. He has also contributed to discussion on radio and TV programs on energy issues, and provided training on energy pricing to government departments, academic institutions and many large companies.
His specialisms include: oil and gas supply-demand fundamentals and trade; oil refining; oil and gas pricing; new fuels technology; technical and econometric analysis of markets; and the role and practices of the PRAs.
Jean-Pierre Favennec, French Institute of Petroleum (IFP), President - Association for the Development of Energy in Africa
Jean Pierre Favennec has a degree from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Industries Chimiques - master in chemical engineering - (Nancy - France) and a degree in Oil Economics from the IFP School.
He began his career as a consultant in the oil industry and worked on a number of projects in the field of gas production, refining, and petrochemical complexes, including numerous studies concerning the strategies, pricing, and profitability of these sectors. He was a project manager in over fifty different countries from South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Since 1990 Jean Pierre Favennec has been a professor at the IFP School where initially he was head of the "Economics and Corporate Management". He was responsible for training seminars for the major energy companies in France and worldwide. He was appointed Director of the Centre for Economics and Management at the IFP School in October 2000.
Jean Pierre Favennec is a specialist in energy, including energy economics, geopolitics and the strategic aspects. He has also worked more specifically on the downstream sector of the hydrocarbons industry, and has written a number of papers on these subjects. He is the editor of three books : Refining Economics and Management, Research and Production of Oil and Gas : Reserves, Costs, Contracts and Energy Markets (published in January 2006 in French). Several books are under preparation, including a book on Energy Geopolitics in 2006.

Mr. Antonio Guglielmi is a Research Analyst at Mediobanca Securities, Research Division. He is the Head of pan-European banking research department at Mediobanca S.p.A. He was a Research Analyst of BofA Merrill Lynch, Research Division (Merrill Lynch & Co Inc., Research Division). He was an Equity Analyst of Citigroup Inc., Research Division. Mr. Guglielmi was a Senior Analyst at Merrill Lynch.
Klaus Schafer, CEO of EON Energy Trading, Germany
Klaus Schäfer, CEO of E.ON Ruhrgas AG, Essen, and since 2011 CEO of E.ON Energy Trading SE in personal union. Following his studies in business administration in Passau he completed his postgraduate studies at ESCP. After starting his career as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley he joined VIAG AG in 1996 and since then he has held various executive positions until the company merged with the VEBA concern into E.ON in 2000. Prior to his current function he was acting in different positions at E.ON SE and its affiliated companies both on a national and international level.
Riccardo Barbieri, Chief European Economist and Interest Rate Strategist, Mizuho International plc
Riccardo Barbieri has been with Mizuho International as Chief European Economist and Interest Rate Strategist since January 2011. Riccardo has been top-ranked in investment surveys of both developed and emerging markets investors. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from New York University and a Research Degree with Honours in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University. Riccardo started his career in 1983 as an academic economist specialising in international economics and industrial organisation at Bocconi University. In 1990 Riccardo joined JP Morgan as senior Italian economist, later becoming head of research for Italy. In October 1995 he joined Morgan Stanley in London as senior economist for Southern Europe, later becoming co-head of European Economics and then Chief Emerging Markets Economist.
In 2007 Riccardo joined Bank of America as Head of Interest Rate, Currency and Commodity strategy for Europe. Following the acquisition of Merrill Lynch, in January 2009 he was appointed Global Head of International Economics and Rates and Currency Research for Bank of America - Merrill Lynch. In 2010 he worked for six months as head of macro strategies at Algebris Investments and then independently as economist and strategist advising asset management and brokerage firms.
Marc Thiele, Head of EU insurance research team
Marc Thiele covers the European insurance sector for 15 years. He joined Mediobanca in May 2012 as Head of Insurance Research, building a pan-European platform in addition to the existing Italian coverage. His universe consists of global multi-line insurers, reinsurers and Swiss mid-cap names. Marc worked for UBS for seven years before joining Mediobanca.
Emanuele Minotti, CEO of Theorema Asset Management
Emanuele Minotti is partner and CEO at Theorema (2008-2012 Brenvey) previously he was a Senior Managing Director at Tisbury, responsible for Equity analysis, European Event Driven Trading and Global Financials. He joined Tisbury from Citadel where he has been Portfolio Manager and Director of the European Event Driven. Previously, Emanuele has been Senior Equity Analyst for European Banks at UBS Warburg, Senior Vice President in Merrill Lynch's FIG group in London and a Director in Salomon Smith Barney's European equity research department covering European banks.
Emanuele started to focus on financial institutions in 1996 in Salomon Brothers after completing an MBA at Bocconi University in Milan in 1995. He also has a degree in Chemistry from the University of Milan and a Diploma in Chemical Engineering. He worked for the Promox Group and Montedison Group in the 80s. In early 90s Emanuele was involved in the restructuring of operations at Pirelli SpA and in the reorganization of the company's finance department. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Italian Banking Association.
In 2001 Emanuele's team was ranked 1st in European banks research by both fund managers and finance directors in the Reuters/Institutional Investors survey. Emanuele has consistently awarded the Institutional Investor's "The Best of Buy Side" award every year since 2004. In 2006 Emanuele was awarded the Thomson Extel Excellence in Asset Management awards (General Equities). In 2010 Emanuele was ranked 1st in European banks research and 1st in European Insurance research by brokers in the Thomson Reuters/Extel survey. Emanuele again was awarded the Thomson Extel Excellence in Asset Management award (General Equities and Equity Strategy) in 2010.
